Putting to rest rumors of the fight being canceled, Ricky Burns and Miguel Vazquez’s lightweight title unification match has been moved to April 20 due to Vazquez suffering from food poisoning.
The card has been in jeopardy for several weeks due to contract issues with Vazquez allegedly wanting more money to face Burns at Wembley Stadium.
The expected co-feature bout featuring George Groves against Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye has been canceled with Groves’ defection from Frank Warren to Eddie Hearns’s rival Matchroom promotion.
Adrien Broner, who earlier today believed Burns had canceled the bout and was now free, sent out a Tweet challenging burns to a unification matchup.
At press time, Broner is expected to return to the ring on June 15.

Since Burns-Vazquez is still a go, it makes even more sense now for Broner to strongly consider having a lightweight unification match of his own against WBA titlist Richar Abril. Broner should win that, giving him the WBC and WBA titles to square off in the fall against the Burns-Vazquez winner, who’ll hold the WBO and IBF straps. I believe that would give us our first unified lightweight champion going back to Juan Diaz.
Let’s hear it. Should Broner stick around at lightweight a little longer to make this happen, or head to the lion’s den at junior welterweight?
